How to double cleanse for chin whiteheads (the reply I filmed for the "you can't get rid of them" comment)

Chin whiteheads are clogged pores, and one cleanser is not getting the sunscreen, concealer and oil out of them. Oil cleanser on dry skin for a full minute on the chin, then a salicylic acid foaming cleanser, every night. Mine cleared in about two weeks and new ones mostly stopped showing up.

Short answer: you can get rid of chin whiteheads, you are just washing your face wrong. A single cleanser does not break down the sunscreen, concealer and oil that sits in the pores on your chin all day. Oil cleanser first, on dry skin, one full minute on the chin. Then a foaming cleanser with salicylic acid. That is the whole method, and it is the reply I filmed for the "you can't get rid of chin whiteheads" comment.

The chin is the spot where everyone gets these. It is where you rest your hand, where concealer gets layered thickest, and where a quick splash of cleanser never quite reaches. Those little bumps under the skin are clogged pores, not pimples, and clogged pores need the gunk lifted out, not dried out.

Why do chin whiteheads keep coming back?

Because the stuff causing them never fully leaves. Sunscreen is made to stick to skin. Concealer is made to stay put. Your own oil sits in the pore on top of that. Water and a foaming wash slide over the surface, so the pore stays plugged, and a plugged pore turns into a closed bump within a few days. Squeezing it makes it worse, which I already wrote about, so I stopped doing that too.

How do you double cleanse for chin whiteheads?

Step one is an oil cleanser on completely dry skin. Dry hands, dry face, do not wet anything first. I use two pumps of the Medicube Zero Pore Blackhead Deep Cleansing Oil and spend most of that minute on my chin and around my mouth, small circles with my fingertips. Oil dissolves oil, so this is the step that actually loosens the plug.

Step one. The blue oil goes on dry skin, before any water touches (medicube Zero Pore Double Cleansing Duo, Aerely Chacón)

Then wet your hands and keep massaging for ten seconds. The oil turns milky, which means it is emulsifying and can rinse off clean instead of leaving a film. Rinse with lukewarm water.

Step two is the Zero Pore SA Clear Capsule Cleansing Foam. It has salicylic acid, which is oil soluble and gets into the pore where the whitehead lives, plus AHA and PHA for gentle exfoliation. Foam it up in your hands first, then work it over the chin for another thirty seconds and rinse. Pat dry, do not rub.

Oil first, chin and around the mouth, then the foam. Two minutes total and this is the whole fix.

How long until chin whiteheads go away?

Mine took about two weeks of doing this every single night. Not once a week, not when I remember. The bumps I already had softened first, then stopped filling back up. New ones basically stopped showing up once the concealer and SPF were actually coming off every night. Results vary, and if you have been single cleansing for years, give it the full two weeks before you decide.

Do you need to double cleanse in the morning too?

No. Double cleansing is a night thing, because the night is when the day's sunscreen and makeup come off. In the morning I rinse with water or use only the foam, and the oil stays on the shelf. Doing the full two steps twice a day is how people strip their skin and then blame the products.

What I stopped doing

  • Makeup wipes. They smear product around and leave half of it behind.
  • Scrubs on the chin. Physical grit on a closed bump irritates the skin around it and does nothing to the plug underneath.
  • Squeezing. It pushes the plug deeper and leaves a mark that lasts longer than the whitehead did.

Who this is not for

If your chin bumps are painful, deep, red, or leave scars, that is not a whitehead problem, that is something a dermatologist should look at. A cleanser will not fix cystic acne and I do not want you spending two weeks finding that out.

If you are already using a prescription retinoid or a strong acid at night, the salicylic foam might be too much on top of it. Start with the oil cleanser alone and a plain gentle foam, and add the SA foam only if your skin stays calm. If your skin stings when you put plain moisturizer on, your barrier is already irritated, so calm that down first and come back to this in a couple of weeks.

Very dry skin can double cleanse too, but keep the whole thing to once a night and follow it with a real moisturizer, not just a toner.

The two I use are the Medicube Zero Pore Blackhead Deep Cleansing Oil and the Zero Pore SA Clear Capsule Cleansing Foam, sold together as the Zero Pore Double Cleansing Duo. Same two bottles as the video, same two on my sink now. No brand deal, no PR obligation, just what fixed my chin.

Questions I get about this

What order do you double cleanse in?

Oil cleanser first, on dry skin, then wet your hands to emulsify and rinse. Foaming cleanser second. Doing the foam first means the oil has nothing to grab and the sunscreen stays in the pore.

How long should you massage the oil cleanser on your chin?

About one minute on dry skin, in small circles with your fingertips, then ten more seconds with wet hands so it turns milky. Most people rinse after ten seconds, which is why it feels like it did nothing.

Can you double cleanse every night if you have dry skin?

Yes, once a night, at night only. Keep the foam step short, use lukewarm water, and put a real moisturizer on right after. If your skin feels tight afterward, swap the salicylic foam for a plain gentle cleanser and keep the oil step.
