My Korean body care routine for dark underarms and dark spots
Dark underarms are usually friction, shaving and buildup, not dirt. My routine is a body wash, a peel shot two to three times a week, and kojic acid and turmeric pads daily on the spots I care about.

Dark underarms are the thing I hid the longest. Not the acne, not the texture, the underarms. I stopped wearing certain tops over it. So when people ask what my Korean body care routine actually is, this is the honest version, including the part where it took weeks and not days.

Kojic Acid Turmeric Clarifying Pad
Kojic acid, turmeric, niacinamide and glycolic acid on a 70 count toner pad. The one I use on the spots that are already there, face or body.
What actually causes dark underarms?
Usually it is not dirt and it is almost never that you are not washing properly. The common causes are friction from shaving and tight clothing, product buildup, and dead skin sitting on the surface. All three make the area look darker than the skin around it. That is why scrubbing harder tends to make it worse, because friction is part of the problem, not the fix.
What I use instead is a routine that lifts buildup gently and then works on the look of tone over time. Kojic acid and turmeric are the two ingredients doing that second job.
What order do I use it in?
Five steps, and the order matters more than the number of products:
- Body wash in the shower. This is the step everything else depends on, because the rest goes onto clean skin.
- The body peel shot after washing, two to three times a week. Not daily.
- Kojic acid and turmeric toner once I am dry.
- The turmeric pads on the areas I actually care about, daily. This is the step I would keep if I could only keep one.
- Jelly mist to finish.
If that feels like a lot, it is. You can run steps one, two and four and still get somewhere. I would rather tell you that than pretend you need the whole set.

How long before anything changes?
Weeks, not days. I noticed the texture first, the roughness going smooth, and the tone came much later and much more gradually. Anyone promising you a dramatic before and after in seven days is either selling something or filming under different lighting.
The other thing nobody says out loud: this is about evening out how the area looks. It is not bleaching and it is not meant to be. If the goal is skin several shades lighter than the rest of your body, this is the wrong routine and honestly the wrong conversation.

Kojic Acid Turmeric Brightening Body Wash
Shower gel with niacinamide, vitamin C and AHA BHA. The step that makes the rest of the routine worth doing, because everything after it goes onto clean skin.
Who this is not for
Skip it, or wait, if any of these are you:
- You shaved in the last day. Fresh shave plus acids equals stinging and irritation. Give it twenty four hours.
- You have any open cut, ingrown that has broken the skin, or active irritation in the area.
- You have never used an acid on your body before. Patch test the peel shot on a small spot first and wait a day.
- The darkness came on quickly, feels velvety or thickened, or showed up with other changes in your body. That pattern is worth a doctor looking at it, not a shelf of products. I am not qualified to tell you what it is and neither is a toner pad.
That last one matters to me. Most dark underarms are friction and buildup. Some are not, and no amount of kojic acid is the right answer for the ones that are not.
No brand deal. No PR obligation. Just ingredients and what actually happened on my skin.

Questions I get about this
How long does it take to see a difference on dark underarms?
Weeks, not days. Texture usually changes before tone does. If a product promises a dramatic change in a week, that is a marketing claim and not a realistic one.
Can I use kojic acid on my underarms right after shaving?
No. Wait about twenty four hours. Acids on freshly shaved skin sting and can leave the area more irritated than it started, which makes the darkness look worse in the short term.
Is this routine bleaching my skin?
No. Kojic acid and turmeric work on the look of uneven tone and buildup. The goal is evening out the area, not lightening your natural skin tone, and anything marketed the second way is worth walking away from.
