Why you should stop squeezing your pores and what to do instead

Stop squeezing. It can damage the tiny blood vessels under your skin, and you cannot shrink a pore anyway. What you can do is keep the pore clean, and for that I use the SKIN1004 Poremizing Quick Clay Stick Mask with the Clear Toner.

Girl, what are you doing. Put the mirror down. I know the strawberry nose is right there and I know squeezing feels productive. It is not. I used to go ham on my pores too, and the very first thing I learned in cosmetic chemistry school is that squeezing can damage the tiny blood vessels under your skin, and that kind of damage does not always go away.

Those tiny red veins on your cheeks and around your nose? A lot of that comes from years of pressing and pinching. So this post is what I do instead. Not a miracle, just a routine that actually keeps the pores clear so you stop wanting to squeeze them.

Me, a magnifying glass, and the strawberry nose I used to squeeze every single night.

Can you actually shrink your pores?

No. I need you to hear this because it is the whole point of the video. My blue-collar husband has big pores. I have had big pores my entire life. You cannot magically change your pore size. What you can change is what is sitting inside them. A pore full of oil and dead skin looks bigger and darker. A clean pore looks smaller. That is the trick. That is the entire trick.

So when I say "do you see the difference," I am not saying his pores got smaller. I am saying his nose stopped looking like a strawberry because the junk came out. His pores are still big. They are just not full anymore.

What do I use instead of squeezing?

The SKIN1004 Centella Poremizing routine. I thought it was another Korean skincare TikTok scam too, until I read the reviews and saw real people posting real before and afters with no filter. Everyone was freaking out over it. I get it now.

The two pieces I use most:

  • SKIN1004 Poremizing Quick Clay Stick Mask. It is clay in a stick, so you swipe it straight onto the nose and the cheeks and do not have to scoop it out of a jar with your fingers. You can watch it sink into the pores. The clay pulls out the oil and the buildup. On my husband, his nose looked visibly clearer after one use. Results vary, that is just what we saw.
  • SKIN1004 Poremizing Clear Toner. This is the part people skip and it is the part that matters. If you only do the clay, your pores fill right back up in two days. The toner keeps them clear between masks so you are not starting over every week.

Before either of those, I double cleanse. Oil cleanser first to melt the sunscreen and the sebum, then a gentle foam. That is what SKIN1004's Centella line is built around, and it is the step that makes the clay actually reach the pore instead of sitting on top of a film.

If you want to try the Centella base before buying the full pore routine, the travel kit is a low-commitment way to see how your skin handles it.

What if I just... Girl, what are you doing? Do you see the strawberry nose? Do you see those tiny red veins on my cheek? I used to go ham squeezing out my pores too. But the first thing I learned in cosmetic chemistry school is that it can damage the tiny blood vessels under your skin permanently. Then what am I supposed to do? I've had huge pores my entire life. Yeah, and so does my blue collar husband. Do you see the difference? Yeah, I'm not seeing it. His pores look pretty big to me. Yeah, that's literally the whole point. What? Here, just watch this. You can't magically change your pore size. What's this? This is what got rid of his strawberry nose after one use. And here we go again, another Korean skincare trend. Really? I get it, I thought this was just another TikTok scam too, until I read something really weird in the reviews. All the real transformations everyone was freaking out over were coming from the full pore minimizing routine. Wait, there's a whole routine? See, this is why I tell you to always read the reviews. Oh, look how deep it's sinking into all those pores. Focus here. If this does that, just imagine what it would pull out of your pores. Yeah, the clay stick pulls all the oil and junk. But if you just do that, your pores are gonna fill right back up. Oh my gosh, my pores have quite literally been begging for this routine. But I don't get paid until next Friday. Then you better pray those TikTok Shop coupons are still there for the SKIN1004 summer sale they're running, because this bundle keeps selling out every three business days.

How often do I do the pore routine?

  • Double cleanse every night. Not optional.
  • Clay stick mask twice a week on the nose and anywhere you get blackheads. Ten minutes, rinse, done.
  • Clear toner every night after cleansing, on a cotton pad or pressed in with your hands.
  • Moisturizer after. Clay dries you out if you leave it there with nothing on top.
Straight from the stick onto the nose. Ten minutes, rinse, moisturize, done.

I tell people to always read the routine, not just buy the one viral product. That is why the mask works for some people and not others. They skipped the toner.

Who this is not for

  • If you are already using strong acids or a retinoid every night, do not add a clay mask on top. Pick one exfoliating step at a time.
  • If your skin is very dry or your barrier is irritated, clay will make it worse. Calm it first.
  • If you have active, painful, inflamed breakouts, this is not a spot treatment. Talk to someone who can look at your skin.
  • If you are expecting your pores to disappear. They will not. They will look cleaner. That is the honest promise.

Red flags and caveats

The full routine sells out fast and I cannot control that. Buy from the SKIN1004 store or a listing that clearly says it is the official seller. And please, if you take one thing from this post: you can keep your pores clean, or you can keep squeezing them. Not both.

Questions I get about this

Is squeezing your pores bad?

Yes. Pressing and pinching can damage the tiny blood vessels under the skin, which is where a lot of those little red veins around the nose and cheeks come from.

Can you make your pores smaller?

No. Pore size is what it is. A pore full of oil and dead skin looks bigger and darker, and a clean pore looks smaller. The goal is keeping them clear.

How often should I use the SKIN1004 Poremizing Clay Stick?

I do it twice a week on the nose and blackhead-prone areas, ten minutes then rinse, with the Clear Toner every night to keep pores from filling back up.
