If I invented this I would literally be a millionaire by now. Wavytalk just came out with the first ever auto wrapping roller and when I tell you my jaw was on the floor. I have never used anything like this and my hair has never looked like this, so let's do a tutorial. Grab your clip and let's get to work. I know it can feel a little tricky at first, but you just want to hold the roller next to your hair and let the airflow do its thing. The air suction is actually very strong, so it is a lot easier than you think. And don't worry about running out of rollers because it comes with eight and clips for each one. Now I like to keep my length in the back and volume in the front, so I'm glad this still has a regular styling attachment for when I'm not using the rollers. And huge tip, if you do small sections you're going to get big volume. And now for my favorite part, I'm putting at least three to four rollers on the top. And make sure to always bring them down horizontally instead of vertically. Make sure the rollers really stay in place. This is truly the craziest thing I have ever used. I fully understand why this was sold out three days after it launched, because I'll take this over paying for expensive salon blowouts any day. The volume is crazy. And you can fully brush it out, it ain't going nowhere honey. Like what can I say, I fear you might need this. I'm just saying.

What is the actual difference between them?

The Airwrap is built around one clever idea, which is that moving air can pull your hair onto the barrel and hold it there. It is a genuinely good tool and it does far more than blowouts. You can smooth, you can curl in two directions, you can swap attachments for different looks. That range is the whole point of it.

The Airshape is narrower on purpose. It wraps the section, you slide the barrel out, you clip a roller in its place, and you move on to the next one. There are eight rollers and a clip for each, so you set your whole head and let it cool. It also comes with a regular styling attachment for the days you are not doing the full roller thing.

Does the Airshape really wrap your hair by itself?

Mostly, yes. You hold the roller next to your hair and let the airflow take it. The suction is stronger than I expected, so it is easier than it looks in the first thirty seconds. The part that actually decides your result is section size. Small sections give you big volume, and big lazy sections give you a soft bend and not much else.

One thing I do that is not in any instruction booklet: bring the rollers down horizontally rather than straight down vertically. They sit flatter against your head that way and they stay put while the rest cools.

How long does the blowout last?

For me it holds, and it holds through brushing it out, which is the part people do not believe. The volume is not a styled in place thing that collapses the moment you touch it. But that depends entirely on letting the rollers cool all the way before you pull them. If you take them out warm you undo the set, and then you are annoyed at the tool when the problem was the timing.

Should I be worried about the Airshape reviews?

Yes, a little, and I am not going to pretend otherwise. On Amazon it is sitting at three stars on a very small number of reviews right now. That is a young listing and small numbers swing hard, but it is not nothing, and you should go read them yourself before you buy. I like this tool and I still think you should look at the complaints first. The two are not in the same price bracket either, so check both listings and decide what that gap is worth to you.

Who this is not for

If your hair is very short, the rollers do not have enough length to grab and this whole system stops making sense. If you are someone who styles your hair a different way every day, the Airwrap earns its keep and the Airshape will feel like a one trick tool. If you have no patience for the cooling step, skip both and get a good round brush, because rushing is what ruins a set no matter what you paid.
