What Products Do You Need for a Bombshell Blowout? Honestly, Just Two

You need two products for a bombshell blowout: a prep spray that smooths and protects the hair before heat, and a dry texture spray at the end for volume. Mine are Color Wow Dream Coat and Color Wow Style on Steroids.

Everyone thinks a big, bouncy bombshell blowout needs a shelf of products. Mine takes two: Color Wow Dream Coat before I dry, and Color Wow Style on Steroids at the end. Everything else is technique.

So I heard you want the biggest, juiciest bombshell blowout, but you're still confused on what products to even use. I got you. Now, a lot of girls will say it's all in the mousse you're using. I beg to differ. I don't like using a million products in my hair, so instead I just prep my hair with the Color Wow Dream Coat. She's everything: heat protectant, humidity proof, and she leaves you with this gorgeous shine. Argue with the wall, but a Dyson can do more for you than any curling iron ever could. The key is to look like our founding fathers. Like, I'm so serious. Do not brush those curls out yet. This is where the magic happens. And this is not sponsored, Color Wow is just that girl. Once you use their texturizing spray on both sides of your head like this, this will be your genuine reaction every time. And now you have the juiciest bombshell blowout, and it only took you two products.

Do you really need mousse for a bombshell blowout?

A lot of girls will tell you the volume is all in the mousse. I beg to differ. Mousse can work, but it is one more product to layer, and when I stack a bunch of stuff my hair ends up heavy and crunchy instead of bouncy. I would rather prep the hair so it dries smooth, then add texture at the very end where I actually want it.

What do you put in your hair before a blowout?

Dream Coat, on damp hair, and that is it. I section my hair, spray it through the lengths, and comb it in so every strand gets coated. Then I blow dry like normal. It is my heat prep, it keeps the style from going frizzy when it is humid out (I live in Miami, this matters), and it leaves this glassy shine that makes the curls look expensive.

One tip: go section by section and actually comb it through. A few spritzes on top of your head will not do much for the hair underneath.

Can a Dyson really replace a curling iron?

For a blowout, honestly yes. I use my Dyson to dry and curl at the same time, wrapping each section away from my face. The curls come out softer and bigger than a curling iron gives me, and they look like a blowout instead of ringlets.

The part nobody tells you: do not brush those curls out yet. Let them cool and set completely. I look like a founding father for a few minutes and that is fine. That is where the hold comes from.

How do you get the volume to actually last?

Style on Steroids. Once the curls are cool, I spray it at the roots and through the lengths on both sides of my head, then break the curls up with my fingers and shake it out. It is a dry texture spray, so it gives grip and lift without feeling sticky. That last step is what turns nice curls into a real bombshell blowout.

The flip after the texture spray. That bounce is the whole point.

Is this sponsored?

No. Color Wow is just that girl for me. I have bought both of these with my own money for a long time, and they are the two bottles I would replace first if they ran out.

Who this is not for

If your hair is very coarse or tightly curled and you want it to stay sleek for days, this two product routine might not be enough on its own, and you may want something heavier for smoothing. If you have a sensitive scalp, keep the texture spray on the hair and off your scalp, and patch test anything new. And if you love a crunchy, piecey hold, this is softer than that on purpose.

Questions I get about this

Do you put Color Wow Dream Coat on wet or dry hair?

I put it on damp hair, section by section, comb it through, and then blow dry. It needs the heat from styling, so it goes on before you dry, not after.

Can I skip mousse for a bombshell blowout?

Yes. I skip it. I prep with Dream Coat so my hair dries smooth, then add volume at the end with a texture spray at the roots and through the lengths.

Why should you let blowout curls cool before brushing them out?

Curls set as they cool. If you brush them out while they are still warm they drop fast. Let them cool completely, then add texture spray and break them up with your fingers.
