My verdict

Vitamin C for mornings, retinal for nights: the two actives most people should own, in one box. I keep this pair in rotation because retinal is the faster cousin of retinol and the vitamin C is stable enough for a bathroom counter. I have not filmed a review, so treat this as what it is and how not to irritate yourself with it.

How I use it

  1. Vitamin C in the morning on dry skin, then moisturizer and SPF.
  2. Retinal at night, a pea size, two nights a week to start.
  3. Never on the same night as acid pads.
  4. Buffer with moisturizer if you are new to retinoids.

Who this is for

Dull skin, fine lines, post-acne marks, anyone ready to graduate from retinol.

Who this is not for

Pregnancy or nursing, irritated barriers, anyone already on a prescription retinoid. Retinal is stronger than retinol.

Questions I get about it

What is the difference between retinal and retinol?

Retinal is one step closer to the active form, so it works faster and can irritate faster. Start slow.

Does the vitamin C sting?

Not on me. It can tingle on broken skin.

Can I use pads on retinal nights?

No. Pick one exfoliant per night.
