How to Use the Wavytalk Airshape Pro With Rollers (Step by Step Bombshell Blowout)

Section your hair, wrap each section on heat, hit the cool shot for five to ten seconds, then slide the barrel out so the roller stays clipped in. Let every roller cool completely before you take it out, and that is the whole bombshell blowout.

Quick honesty note first: I do paid work with Wavytalk now. This video is from August, before any of that, and I bought this set with my own money. Nothing in it was scripted by the brand.

I have done bombshell blowouts every way you can think of. Velcro rollers, a round brush and a prayer, a curling iron on top of a blow dry. When I opened the Airshape Pro and saw an air styler and clip-in rollers in the same box, I genuinely laughed, because it is the exact routine I was already doing with three separate tools.

Tell me why it took the girls this freaking long to find out about this technique. Just for Wavytalk to then come out with this. That is absolutely freaking genius. Wavytalk just came out with an air styling set, but with rollers. I might be the queen of bombshell blowouts, so let's do a tutorial. Your life will be much easier if you start by sectioning off your hair. So there's a cool shot mode and then a heat mode. We're gonna start on the heat. And I know at first it can be a little tricky, so you're just gonna let the airflow do its thing, bringing it down to your head. This is when you then flip the switch to the cool shot mode for another five to ten seconds to really lock that curl in place. My favorite part: slide out the styling wand to clip in the roller, and then we're just gonna continue repeating that same exact process throughout your entire head. And it really is that simple. No, I'm freaking obsessed. Like, come on now. There's so much freaking volume. I already know these are about to take over the internet, so I'm gonna link it.

What comes in the Airshape Pro roller set?

The styler handle, a few attachments, and the clip-in rollers that slide right off the styling barrel. That last part is the whole point. You curl the section, then the roller stays in your hair while the tool moves on to the next one.

The set the day it arrived. The pink pieces on the right are the barrel and rollers, that is what makes this one different.

Do I need to section my hair first?

Yes. Your life will be so much easier. I clip the top away and work in sections about the width of the roller. If a section is wider than the barrel, the ends stick out and you get a bend instead of a curl. Smaller is always better here, especially at the front where everyone looks first.

Heat mode or cool shot, which one do I use?

Both, in that order. Start on heat and bring the barrel up to the section. At first it feels a little tricky, but do not fight it. Let the airflow do its thing and wrap the hair onto the barrel for you. Once it is wrapped down to your head, flip to the cool shot for another five to ten seconds. That cool shot is what locks the curl in. Skip it and the shape drops before you even get the roller in.

The full move on one section: wrap on heat, cool shot, slide the barrel out, roller stays in.

How do you get the roller off the barrel?

This is my favorite part. Slide the styling barrel out and the roller stays clipped in your hair, already holding the curl. Then you grab the next roller and repeat the exact same thing around your whole head. That really is it. Once you have done two or three sections it becomes muscle memory.

How long do you leave the rollers in?

Until they are completely cool to the touch. I do my makeup while they sit. Taking them out warm is the number one reason a blowout falls flat by lunch. When they are cool, unclip them, flip your head over, and shake the curls out with your fingers instead of a brush.

Rollers out, shaken out with my fingers, no brush. This is the (Wavytalk Airshape Pro Roller Air Styler Set, Aerely Chacón)
Rollers out, shaken out with my fingers, no brush. This is the volume I was screaming about in the video.

Who this is not for

If your hair is very fine or pin straight and drops a curl within an hour no matter what you do, this alone might not hold for you. A light hairspray on each section before the roller goes in helps. If your hair is short, above the shoulders, the rollers will not have enough length to wrap more than once, so you will get a bend more than a bombshell. And if you want a different look every day, waves one day and sleek the next, a multi styler is probably a better buy than a roller set. I broke that down in my Airshape vs Airwrap post, and if your problem is a flat crown specifically, my crown volume trick is the one to read.

Get the exact one

The roller set is the one in the video, linked above. Make sure you grab the Pro roller set and not just the plain styler, because the rollers are the part that does the work.

Questions I get about this

Can I use the Airshape Pro on wet hair?

I start on hair that is already mostly dry. Rough dry it first, then use the styler for the shape. The roller step works best when the section is dry going in.

How many rollers come in the set?

Mine came with eight clip-in rollers, which is enough for a full head if you do the top and sides in sections and leave the very back loose.

Do I need hairspray?

Not always. My hair holds on its own with the cool shot and a full cool down. If your hair is fine or drops curls fast, a light mist on each section before the roller goes in makes a big difference.
